The site is in the back wing of a littoral cave shelter created thousands of years ago by the waves of ancient Lake Lahontan. Here, we look out north toward Lake Winnemucca. Shelter looks to have been formally excavated, perhaps in the 1950s or 60s, because there are no artifacts in the fill. In the shelters that have been illegally looted (this is federal public land), you always see artifacts in the fill because they were not screening the fill. Here professional archaeologists were. But we don't think they realized the pussy petroglyphs, as there does not seem to be anything in the literature about this. We intend to write about this. We suppose we can't use porn to illustrate what we're seeing.
